Sustainable Agriculture

Environmental degradation which includes deforestation is deepening rural poverty and fuelling large migrations to crowded urban slums. Natural disasters exacerbated by environmental degradation has caused deaths and affect million people worldwide to include Tanzania.

Sustainable agriculture program aims at ensuring a unique opportunity for rural poor to adopt sustainable land use practices. As being ecologically sound, economically viable, socially just, gender sensitive and humane, sustainable agriculture aims at increasing food production, build food security, and hence improve people health and livelihood at the grassroots level.

This Program works to:

  • disseminate information for helping communities and farmers to test and adopt concepts of sustainable agriculture such as agro ecology, organic farming, indigenous food crops etc
  • address critical local issues affecting the practical application of sustainable agriculture concept such as markets, inputs, new skills and knowledge etc

Eco Programs seek support from individuals, groups and institutions involved in sustainable agriculture worldwide to promote its implementation in Tanzania.
